OVERVIEW

Gamify Volunteering

For Smiles is a platform that connects local non-profit organizations with individuals who are passionate about supporting local causes. To make the volunteering process more delightful and incentive, our team created a rewarding system. The volunteering hours can be redeemed to see more smiley faces of whom you have served. To receive bonus hours users are encouraged to participate as a family or take shifts caused by last minute cancel.

PROBLEM

The Lowest
Volunteer Rate

The speech of Ms. Marney, the speaker from St. Anthony’s was the inspiration for us. Three major problems were mentioned: short of volunteer support, last minute canceled volunteers and improper charitable donations

SOLUTION

Mesolimbic System

Mesolimbic system is the portion of the brain responsible for feelings of reward. When individuals make contributions to charitable causes, their mesolimbic systems are triggered and their brains release chemicals that can make people feel “help’s high”.

DESIGN

REFLECTION

In this competition, I teamed up with another UX designer, an educator and a business analyst. In this competition, I realized that the ability to execute the idea is as important as design. Our team should've spent more time and energy on developing the prototype of MVP rather than figuring out all the features that can make the product stand out.
